CM’s Sivaji memorial announcement makes Kollywood happyPublished: August 27, 2015
The Tamil film fraternity has expressed happiness over Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa‘s announcement that the government would build a memorial for Sivaji Ganesan at a land opposite to Sathya Studios on the banks of the Adyar river in Chennai.
South Indian Artistes Association president R Sarathkumar, popular actor and Sivaji’s son Prabhu and others have welcomed the move.
Speaking in the Assembly today, the CM said, “I am very happy to announce that the memorial will be constructed by the Tamil Nadu government in the land allotted to South Indian Film Artists Association for the memorial.”
She recalled that in 2002 itself, she had ordered conveyance of 65 cents of land owned by Public Works Department in Adyar to South Indian Film Artists Association for constructing a memorial for Sivaji Ganesan.
“So far, the memorial has not been constructed by the association in the land allotted for the purpose and several sections of people and political parties have appealed that the government should build the memorial,” she said, stating that the government itself would construct it soon.
