The first general body meeting of Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Artistes Association) after the new team took over held in Chennai on Sunday and saw the participation of huge number of actors and actresses.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, president of the association Nasser said work will begin on the new Nadigar Sangam buildings shortly. The building, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 26 crore, will have a marriage hall, an auditorium with a capacity of 1,000 seats and a preview theatre.
“The funds we receive from the star cricket match will go towards construction of the new building. We initially had three designs from three companies and have chosen the best and expect to start full-fledged construction by April-end.”
Vice-president, SIAA, Ponvannan told reporters that the Sangam has decided to provide monetary aid to its members who are over 60 years and in need of such support. “Out of the 3500 members of SIFAA, the personal details related to 2500 persons have been enumerated”, he said, adding that members who are more than 60 years will be given Rs 1000 per month and those who are above 80 will be given Rs 2000.
“Everything, from pensions, welfare schemes and the topic over construction of new building were discussed at the meeting,” he said.
