Nadigar Sangam’s decision on KarunanidhiPublished: February 20, 2016
DMK president M Karunanidhi, affectionately called as ‘Kalaignar’, is the dialogue writer of blockbuster movies such as ‘Parasakthi’, ‘Manohara’ and ‘Mandhiri Kumari’. He is also a lifetime member of South Indian Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam).
So far, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu did not have voting right in the Sangam, as he is only a honorary member. But now, as per a latest resolution, he will be a lifetime honorary member with voting rights.
“Since Kalaignar is the senior most member of Tamil cinema, Nadigar Sangam office-bearers have decided to honour him with this. A resolution was passed in the recent executive council,” sources said.
In fact, Karunanidhi’s whole family is well-connected with cinema. From Mu Ka Muthu to Murasoli Maran to Kalanithi Maran to Udhayanidhi Stalin to Arulnidhi, many in his family have (or had) close links with Kollywood.
