Suhasini Maniratnam sworn in as the Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of LuxembourgPublished: March 18, 2015
Popular film Actor and Social Activist, Mrs. Suhasini Mani Ratnam is now the Honorary Consul of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg with consular jurisdiction over the States of Tamilnadu and Kerala. The Oath Ceremony was held yesterday in a Star Hotel in Chennai.
The appointment was announced by His Excellency Mr. Sam Schreiner, the Ambassador of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg in a glittering ceremony held in Chennai, well attended by Consul Generals, Honorary Consul Generals, Corporate Houses with Luxembourg connections and the who is who of Chennai. The event commenced after playing the national Anthem of both India and Luxembourg. Mrs. Ranjani Manian of Global Adjustments welcomed the guests.
Lighting the traditional lamp, the Ambassador Mr. Sam Schreiner said that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is very happy to have chosen Mrs. Suhasini as the Honorary Consul. He added saying that Mrs. Suhasini who has acted in about 350 films is not only a talented actress, but also a social activist for women’s causes and a multi faceted person. He expressed his confidence that the relationship between India & Luxembourg will strengthen in the years to come through corporate houses setting up their operations and through tourism.
After swearing in as Honorary Consul, Ms Suhasini during her acceptance speech indicated that it was a proud moment of honour for her. Drawing sharp comparison between Luxembourg and the small town Paramakudi where she was born, Ms Suhasini assured that she will strive hard and do her best to the role that she has accepted. She also thanked her Family, friends & well wishers who had gathered in good number who have always been her source of strength.
The oath ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by Senior Attorney and Former Advocate General Mr. Bharath Raman. He highlighted that Ms. Suhasini was the first person in the country from the Actor fraternity to have been bestowed with such an honour.
