Thanu Vs Theatres: Will Rajini intervene?Published: April 16, 2016
All eyes are on Rajinikanth, as Kalaipuli S Thanu, the producer of the superstar’s next movie ‘Kabali’, is locked horns with theatre owners.
It all started with theatres in Chengalpet region (covering screens in Chennai outskirts, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts) refusing to screen ‘Theri’ (which too is produced by Thanu), alleging that he demanded huge sum of money in advance.
Following that, Thanu held a press meet in Chennai, in which he warned that he would not allow theatres in Chengalpet area to screen ‘Kabali’, his next venture. This triggered the anger of theatre owners who convened a meeting in Chennai on Friday night to discuss the issue.
They levelled various allegations against Thanu during the meeting and said that he was asking theatres to pay exorbitant amount which was not at all feasible. Theate owners association president Panneerselvam even invited Thanu for an open debate.
Some members of the association sought the intervention of Rajini to solve the issue. “We are keen to screen ‘Kabali’ and we want the superstar to find a solution to the problem,” they said.
