Vijayakanth Meets Modi with a Request on KalamPublished: July 30, 2015
Actor and DMDK president Vijayakanth today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate former President A P J Abdul Kalam‘s birthday on October 15 as National Students Day.
Vijayakanth submitted a letter in this regard to the Prime Minister, after participating in the funeral rites of Dr Kalam in Rameswaram.
In his letter, a copy of which was released to the media, Vijayakanth said te sudden demise of Peoples’ President Dr Kalam has shocked and saddened the whole world, the India and especially the people of Tamil Nadu.
”I hope it is well-known to you that Dr Kalam was born in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu on October 15, 1931. He was brought up in a multi-religious, tolerant society, one with a progressive outlook”, he pointed out.
He overcame all odds and went on to become an atomic scientist and had been honored with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour.
Also, he was elected as The President of India and given a new meaning for Indians to the world. He has contributed and dedicated his whole life to enlighten the students community of all over the world.
The young people of India aspired to celebrate his birthday as National Students Day. ‘Hence, as the leader of opposition party of Tamil Nadu, I request your good-self to take necessary action to celebrate Dr Abdul Kalam’s birthday as National Students Day in a spectacular way and make the whole world to remember his contribution to the students’ society to which he dedicated his whole life”, Vijayakanth said.
