Vijayakanth’s Ramana Vs Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar – What works and what doesn’t?Published: March 24, 2015
The trailer of Akshay Kumar-Shruthi Haasan starrer ‘Gabbar’, a remake of Vijayakanth’s blockbuster movie ‘Ramana’, directed by AR Murugadoss was launched last evening. Telugu filmmaker Krish who has made some of the best movies like Vedam in Telugu and later remade it as ‘Vaanam’ in Tamil has helmed this project and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has produced it.
Everything looks fine with the theatrical trailer of ‘Gabbar’, especially the dialogues, where we hear ‘Name is Villain, but person is hero’ (referring to the original character of ‘Gabbar’ in Sholay). What make the trailer is the stunts by Akshay Kumar that are very well choreographed. But ‘Ramana’ was not an action film. It involves a lot ‘Brain Work’ that executing the brawny stuffs by AR Murugaodoss upon Vijayakanth. Additionally, the extra dose of commercial elements like Shruthi Haasan indulged in romance and trying to woo Akshay Kumar is an unwanted for the script if it has been worked on the same pattern of original version.
Anyways, we will have to wait for nearly one more month as the film hits screens on May 1.
