Vishal chops off controversial scene in ‘Kathakali’Published: January 29, 2016
Vishal and Pandiraj have come forward to delete a scene in their recent venture ‘Kathakali’, as it hurt the sentiments of washermen community.
They have taken this decision after the Madurai bench of the Madras high court ssued notice to the censor board on a petition seeking to remove “incriminating” dialogues and some scenes against washermen community in the movie.
When the plea by P Manibaba of Tamilnadu Vannar Peravai came up for hearing, Justice K Ravichanra Babu ordered notice to the CEO of the Central Board of Film Certification among others, seeking their reply within a week.
In his petition, Manibaba claimed some dialogues in the film were against his community, which was already an oppressed caste, and caused mental stress to them. He requested the court to issue direction to remove the dialogues and scenes that were critical of washermen.
