What transpired in Kamal, Dalai Lama meeting?

On a day when his action thriller ‘Thoongavanam’ hit the screens, Kamal Haasan called on Tibetian spiritual leader and Nobel peace prize winner Dalai Lama in Chennai. The latter was on a two-day visit to the city to take part in some events. The actor-filmmaker was accompanied by Gauthami.

“I have admired his resilience and purpose. Being a fan of Gandhiji it is not to too farfetched to become his admirer. Inspite of the fact that I am rationalist and hence not spirituality bent, my meeting was invigorating and felt purposeful,” Kamal said.

“My lack of interest in matters of things spiritual in nature was matched by his disinterest in cinema. ‘I have not watched a single movie not even television’ he told me with a smile,” the ‘Ulaga Nayagan’ said in a statement.

“Yet he opined that I could use my craft and medium to propagate the great philosophy offered to the world by India: Ahinsa,” said Kamal.

“I confirmed my faith in Ahinsa and said I will venture soon in that direction. For a man of his position he indulged in small talk with abandon sign of a man who had no worldly worries. Above all he loved the company of strangers,” he added.

He reminded me of Jain Tamil poetry 200 year old. “Everywhere is my town, All are my kin”. (Yaadhum Ooray, Yaavarum Kaylir)”, concluded Kamal.
